Evolutionary theory is still based on the Modern Synthesis, sometimes known as "Neo-Darwinism," which emerged from the reconciliation of Mendel's genetic studies with Darwin's theory of natural selection.



Neo-Darwinism is an evolutionary theory that combines contemporary population genetics and natural selection to synthesize Charles Darwin's theory of evolution. The word originated in 1896 to refer to the beliefs of August Weismann (1834–1914), who maintained that natural selection was the only significant process that could explain biological evolution and that the inheritance of acquired traits was impossible according to his germ-plasm theory.

Neodarwinism :
This is a modified version of Darwin's theory that takes into account the contemporary synthesis of Mendelian genetics and natural selection.
The accumulation of genotypic variants within a gene pool is the primary mechanism causing speciation.
The Modern Synthetic idea of Natural Selection is another name for this idea that is occasionally used.
A significant factor in speciation is reproductive isolation, which enables the fittest genes in a gene pool to be amplified differently. Thus, the formation of new species is linked to the natural selection of the best suited genes.

Mendelian genetics and modern natural selection theory are used into Neo Darwinism, a reinterpretation of Darwinian evolution. Thus, the primary mechanism promoting speciation is defined as the accumulation of genotypic variants within a gene pool. Some refer to Neo Darwinism as the Modern Synthetic Theory of Natural Selection. The Neo Darwinists included Haldane, Fisher, Fold, Huxley, and Romans.

Moreover, mutations are the source of genotypic variations within a gene pool. Certain mutations only impact a small number of nucleotides inside the genome, whereas others, like recombination, lead to more substantial alterations. On the other hand, both of these might be happy accidents leading to unique genotypes more adapted to their surroundings. Reproductive isolation is also a key factor in speciation according to Neo Darwinism. It allows the fittest genes to be amplified differently within the gene pool. Therefore, it is believed that the development of new species is facilitated by natural selection favoring the genes that are the fittest.

There are two hypotheses that explain how new species arise and evolve: Darwinism and Neo-Darwinism. Neo Darwinism is a subset of Darwinism, which is the original theory put out by Darwin and Wallace.

The main impetus behind both Neo-Darwinism and Darwinism
The primary driving factor identified by Darwinism is the accumulation of phenotypic differences, whereas the primary driving force identified by Neo Darwinism is the increase in genetic variations.

The cause of the variance
Another difference between Darwinism and Neo Darwinism is the source of variety. Neo Darwinism provides an explanation for variety that Darwinism is unable provide. Neo Darwinism attributes diversification to natural selection, genetic recombination, mutation, and reproductive isolation.

Impact of Isolation for Reproduction
Another difference between Neo Darwinism and Darwinism is that the latter holds that isolation plays a significant role in evolution, while the former does not.
